HOW TO TEACH YOUR CHILD SIGHT WORD EASILY
Sight words are words that we are using every day in teaching but the kids can’t read them. We can also define sight words as those words, which a child is seen but hard to read.
Below are 4 methods of teaching sight words.
1. INTRODUCING THE WORD
First, introduce the sight word to the kids. Example Who, which, where, just, him, her, live, from, and things, think, said, them, when.
Use phonics mapping example you take one sight word, then tell the pupils each sound in the word. Let’s take the word LIKE. There are 3 sounds in the word like, L I KE. Tell the kids L sound, I sound, and KE sound which sounds like K sound only.
2. TEACH WITH MULTISENSORY
Let the pupils write each sound on the air or on their desk using their hand while saying the sound of each letter.
3. USE MAGNETIC ALPHABET
Use the magnetic alphabet to teach sight words, then ask the pupils to close their eyes and change the arrangements of the letters in the word, then ask the kids to read the letter and see if they can find the mistake.
For example, you arrange the word “LIKE” using the magnetic alphabet after you ask them to close their eyes, then you rearrange the word like this “LIEK” and ask them to read this word to see if they understand what you are teaching them.
4. USE OF FLASHCARDS
You can give them sight word flashcards to read on their own by spelling and reading with the sound.
