Below are steps you need to follow if you want to teach a child how to read.
Introduce your lesson by singing
If you want to teach a child to read, always introduce your lesson with relevant song or songs that you know the child love but make sure the song is educative. Introducing lessons with singing helps capture the attention of the child through out the lesson.
Always include a letter magnet in your instructional materials. This will help a child engage in learning activities because the child will use all of his senses. It will also help him understand what you teach him. This will give you an opportunity to teach him how to read using those letter letter magnet
Flashcards play an important role in the teaching and learning process. Use relevant flashcards that have pictures and words. Any child that learns with Flashcards will find learning easier and this will help him to learn on his own. Therefore, the use of Flashcards will help you as a teacher to teach a child to read in the easiest way.
Use of video clips while teaching
Video clips play a role in the teaching and learning process. I use to teach my two kids with video clips, Iy helps my two kids to learn on their own, especially stories. In fact, I always use video in each subject am teaching them.
What you hear you forget, but what you see you remember.
Always give real examples, examples that will help a child to transfer the knowledge he already acquired and use it to understand the lesson you are teaching them.
This is because your reading is motivating the child.
Read to your child.
Reading Night stories to your kids helps a lot in their academic performance, this is because a child will take reading as a habit.
Ask him or her questions during and after reading.
Asking a child questions while reading will guide the child to understand what you are telling them, and cultivate the habit of reading
Explain what you teach him in your own language.
In some countries, like my country Nigeria, we are teaching kids with English, not in their mother’s tongue. After a teacher introduces a topic to the pupils or students, the teacher needs to give them an example or reexplain the topic in their mother’s tongue.
Bring materials that will help catch his attention.
This includes the use of multi-sensory materials, like educational apps, relevant movie or video clips.
Use of educational apps.
Using educational apps will hold the attention of the child, this will allow a child to be learning things in the apps, without realizing that they are learning
Use of educational media
This develops the interest in reading.
New materials capture the attention of your pupils and help them read on their own
Conducive is the major factor that affects teaching a child to read.
